Agreement between the Association Monégasque de l’Ordre de Malte and the Monaco Cardio-Thoracic Centre

On 13 February, the agreement between the Association Monégasque de l’Ordre de Malte and the Monaco Cardio-Thoracic Centre was renewed for a further three years.

The ceremony was attended by the President of the Association Monégasque de l’Ordre de Malte, Jean Kerwat, and the CEO of the CCM, Guy Nervo, as well as by Doctors Filippo Civaia, Bruno Gostoli and Armand Eker and Professor Sylvie Di Filippo of the CCM, and on behalf of the Association Monégasque de l’Ordre de Malte, Laurence Blanchi, Vice-President, Didier Gamerdinger, Secretary General-Chancellor, and Gaia Catelli-Toninelli, Hospitalière.

Since 2011, the Association and the Centre have been engaged in a long-term partnership in the field of humanitarian surgery. Under the terms of this agreement, the Association has undertaken to contribute an annual sum of €30,000 for three years, enabling the Centre to carry out 3 to 5 surgical operations each year for patients from less-favoured countries, from which they cannot benefit in their country of origin.

Since the partnership was set up, more than twenty patients, mainly children and young people, have received medical treatment or undergone surgery at the Centre for cardio-thoracic or vascular pathologies.

Yakuba Ouattara visits Monaco’s Cardio-Thoracic Centre

Roca Team captain Yakuba Ouattara has always been committed to helping sick and underprivileged children, and for the past 3 years he has been the patron of the No Finish Line, Monaco’s biggest charity race.

He came to see 7-year-old Aziz, who was operated on by the paediatric cardio team at Monaco’s Cardio-Thoracic Centre, which is very involved in humanitarian work since its creation. This little Ivorian suffered from a serious heart defect that could not be treated in his country of origin.

The operation was made possible thanks to the involvement and generosity of Children & Future, the Department of International Cooperation, the MCH, the Monegasque Red Cross, Aviation sans Frontières and Aziz’s host families.

Giving a second life to sick children from developing countries is a strong commitment from the Principality and one that mobilises this sportsman with a big heart!
